Chapter 1: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

Sagittarius Rising:

High-spirited, enthusiastic, and exuberant, you love adventure, change, exploring new territory, and are not happy confined to the same safe, familiar, secure little world all the time. You have a strong restlessness and yearning for something greater than anything you've yet experienced, and you often live in your dreams and visions for the future. You tend to believe that the grass is greener somewhere else and you like to keep moving, either literally or figuratively. Idealistic and optimistic, you always expect something better ahead. You love to have a goal, something to aim for, but once you achieve it you are on to something else. You are ever on the lookout for new opportunities and you are a gambler, willing to take risks and to break new ground. The possibility of discovering something new is what makes life interesting for you. You have great faith in life and bounce back quickly from disappointment and failure.

Freedom-loving and independent, you cannot tolerate being caged for very long, and friends and loved ones must respect your need for freedom of movement. Binding commitments and responsibilities often weigh heavily upon you and you may resist "growing up" and taking on the limitations of adult life.

You are friendly and outgoing and have a great sense of fun and playfulness. You are also philosophically minded and often quite outspoken about your convictions and beliefs. Sometimes you get carried away with your enthusiasm of the moment and you tend to exaggerate. You are often a big talker, full of big promises, and you are usually pretty convincing. You do everything in a big way, a generous way. You like to have the best, and you heartily dislike stinginess, littleness, or pettiness. Your vision is always large. You are able to perceive the big picture, general patterns and principles, and are well suited to politics, business, higher education or religion.

Other people see you as a good sport and a good friend, but one who is not always consistent and dependable. You may also be seen as a wise person since you do not get bogged down in pettiness and trivialities, and are able to communicate a larger way of looking at situations, one that opens up new potentials. You are a person who believes in miracles, grace, or just plain good luck, someone who never gives up on life, and you inspire and encourage others to keep looking forward.

Neptune Conjunct Asc.:

You seem gentle and receptive and often you do not make a clear, strong impression on others. You have an elusive and subtle quality, and people may be nebulous about who you are. You are easily influenced by others and somewhat naive. You have a spiritual, mystical approach to life and are very idealistic and sometimes impractical.

Chapter 2: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation

Sun in Aquarius:

You are a freedom-loving, strong-willed, and independent-minded individual, and you insist upon living your own life as you see fit, even if that means ignoring convention and tradition. In personal relationships you cannot be owned or possessed, and while you are willing to share yourself with another, you do not always adjust easily to the emotional give and take of a close relationship. Though intellectually open, you can be enormously stubborn, opinionated, and inflexible on a one-to-one level. You have strong convictions and feelings about fairness and equality, and you try to live by your ideals, but your ideals about how people SHOULD treat one another don't always take into account human weaknesses, differences, and needs. You probably dislike sentimentality and traditional gender roles and "games".

You are fair, intelligent, objective, rational and often let your head rule rather than your heart. You seem rather self-sufficient and detached emotionally because you are capable of putting aside your personal feelings and viewing things dispassionately. But once you make up your mind on an issue, you are difficult to sway and can be rather dogmatic.

You think in broad terms and are concerned with the world beyond your own personal sphere - your town, nation, or even planet. You are likely to become involved in community affairs, social organizations, and groups of all kinds, or to have a keen interest in such. You enjoy being part of a group endeavor and often find yourself organizing, managing, or supervising group activities.

Forward-looking and progressive, you harbor great hopes for the future. You stay current and up to date, and respond to contemporary cultural trends, both in terms of personal style and in terms of ideas. When young you were very influenced by your peers and by group pressures and by all the "latest crazes". You have an experimental mind and are attracted by the novel.

Your strong points include your concern for human welfare and social betterment, your sense of fairness and democratic spirit, and your vision. Your faults are your stubbornness and inflexibility, and a tendency to be very obtuse and insensitive when it comes to personal feelings and human needs.

Sun in 2nd house:

Ownership gives you a sense of security, and you have a strong attachment to your possessions. You also have a natural instinct or understanding of economics, finance, trade, and appraising the value of merchandise.

Sun Conjunct Mercury:

You tend to see things from your perspective only and to be rather subjective. You also enjoy talking and expressing your views but you don't always listen as well. You have a clear mind, a love of learning and new experiences, and need constant mental stimulation and activity.

Sun Square Uranus:

Impulsive, restless, and spontaneous, your life is apt to be somewhat unstable and full of sudden changes. You are extremely independent and crave excitement, adventure, freedom, and discovery. You have a rebellious streak and often feel you are unusual and different from the mainstream of society. The unorthodox and novel appeal to you.

Sun Trine Pluto:

You have a deep belief in your own power and your ability to survive any change and to emerge victoriously from any difficulty. You have tremendous inner resources and strength. Intense, strong willed, and zealous, you pursue your desires and goals with complete dedication and singleness of purpose, and you may be somewhat compulsive, even fanatical at times. You like to live intensely and have no respect for people who are weak, who avoid confronting life and their own destiny.

Chapter 3: Mental Interests and Abilities

Mercury in Aquarius:

You are a progressive thinker, open and receptive to new technologies and breakthroughs in science, and the latest discoveries in any field. You have high expectations and a deep belief that mankind's problems can be solved through the use of our creative intelligence and inventive mind. You have no patience for those whose conservative, unimaginative outlook limits their capacity to find solutions and envision a better future. You also like to keep abreast of current developments in world affairs, for you instinctively know that what happens in one part of the world affects everyone. You have a strong humanitarian impulse. Practically speaking, you have an aptitude for organization and enjoy being involved in cooperative endeavors or businesses that are contemporary and innovative.

Mercury in 2nd house:

Your mental skills and intelligence are directed toward practical matters, and you are interested in the tangible effects of any abstract idea or concept. You are very interested in finance, economics, and moneymaking strategies.

Mercury Square Uranus:

You are an original thinker, capable of unique discoveries and innovations, but you tend to scatter your energies into too many directions at once and to make impulsive or hasty decisions. You grasp ideas very quickly and become impatient with duller or more conservative minds. A fast-moving, mentally stimulating, and unpredictable atmosphere suits you quite well, even though you may complain about the stress and the crazy pace. You have a technical bent and are interested in the newest scientific theories and findings, electronics, computers, etc.

Mercury Trine Pluto:

Your mind is deep and penetrating and you are interested in anything secret, mysterious, or hidden, including the deeper aspects of the human psyche. You possess an aptitude for private investigation, psychology and research work. You are also drawn to esoteric or occult studies.

Chapter 4: Emotions: Moods, Feelings, Romance

Moon in Leo:

Warm, loving, and generous in your affections, you inspire tremendous devotion and loyalty in your loved ones. This is good, since you would never settle for anything less! You want to be adored and worshipped like the king or queen that you feel you are, and it is difficult for anyone to resist the warmth and attention you lavish on those you care about. You have a great deal of pride and need to be recognized and appreciated. The way to really hurt your feelings is to ignore you. You are genuine, sincere, and have a strong sense of personal integrity. You hate emotional games and dishonesty.

Moon in 8th house:

Though you want closeness very much, you often close yourself off and do not really trust others who may wish to get to know you. You are very wholehearted in your feelings and responses to people, and you want all or nothing from the people you care for.

Moon Sextile Jupiter:

You are easygoing, agreeable, and tolerant, willing to overlook others' mistakes, forget the past, and begin again on a positive note. You enjoy making others comfortable and happy, and sometimes overdo your generosity. You often feel that "everything will turn out all right no matter what I do", and so become lazy and lackadaisical.

Moon Sextile Saturn:

You have an inner poise and balance that enables you to act in a cool, efficient manner during emotional traumas and stress. You keep perspective and objectivity about highly charged emotional issues - sometimes to the chagrin of others who might wish that you would react more intensely. You are quietly supportive and faithful to your friends and loved ones.

Venus in Aquarius:

You are open and unconventional in your attitude towards love, romance, and sex. You enjoy socializing, bringing people together, and having many friends of both sexes. You value friendship very highly and are, in fact, more comfortable being a friend than a lover. You desire an intellectual rapport or spiritual bond with your love partner, but deep intimacy and emotional bonding do not come easily to you. The role of "husband" or "wife" in the traditional sense doesn't appeal to you, and you abhor jealousy and possessiveness since you feel that no person truly "belongs" to another. You appreciate a love partner who will allow you plenty of freedom and is not very emotionally demanding.

Venus in 2nd house:

For you, caring and affection must be expressed tangibly, and you love giving and receiving gifts. You value luxury, comfort, and elegance very highly and appreciate beautiful things. You can be self-indulgent and extravagant. Being overly possessive of people you love and of your belongings is something you need to beware of.

Chapter 5: Drive and Ambition: How You Achieve Your Goals

Mars in Pisces:

You are noncombative, noncompetitive, and something of a pacifist. You will give something up rather than fight for it. You may seem weak-willed or ineffectual, for you do not have a strong ego drive for personal achievement and material advantage, or for winning at the expense of someone else. Being first, being best, being on top doesn't mean much to you, and you can be quite happy in a supporting role, working for the benefit of others or for a cause that you believe in. You are gentle and impressionable and are motivated by less mundane and less tangible things than most other people. You may have difficulty formulating clear, definite goals for yourself and making your way in the world. You have many dreams, high ideals, and a strong mystical or religious impulse. You also have a creative imagination and can successfully apply yourself to art or music. You have a sensitive physique and need to maintain good regular health habits in order build strength and stamina.

Mars in 2nd house:

You often buy things on impulse and you can be reckless with your material resources and money. You have certain possessions that you are extremely attached to and possessive of.

Chapter 6: Other Influences

Jupiter in Libra:

Your strengths lie in your ability to cooperate, to be diplomatic, and to know just what behavior is called for in whatever social situation you find yourself. You also possess a strong sense of fairness, the willingness to listen to opposing viewpoints and opinions, and the ability to be (or at least seem to be) impartial and moderate, rather than extreme and one-sided.

Jupiter in 9th house:

You are very open-minded and deeply curious about distant places and ways of thinking and living that are different from your own. The urge to travel widely and to experience as much of the world as possible is very strong in you. The study of philosophy or religion also interests you a great deal. You benefit from your contact with other cultures, and you may be involved in linking those who are far apart geographically or philosophically.

Jupiter Conjunct Saturn:

Your aspirations and dreams are always tempered by realism and practical considerations. You pursue your aims in a systematic, disciplined, and thorough manner, and you are willing to take your time, advancing slowly and steadily on your way to your goal.

Sometimes you underestimate what is possible, and hold yourself back unnecessarily due to a lack of faith or an overly cautious attitude.

Saturn in Libra:

You take your personal relationships so seriously that they may seem more like work, constant effort, and compromise, rather than a free and enjoyable sharing. You may feel that relationships in general require more of you than they are worth, and you enter into any close relationship cautiously and conscientiously. You also fear entrapment in close relationships.

Saturn in 9th house:

Your attitude toward religion, philosophy, and politics is very conservative and possibly narrow or rigid. On the one hand, you may believe in nothing that is speculative or intangible, requiring proof for any idea presented to you. Each idea is thoroughly and systematically examined. On the other hand, you may tenaciously cling to your grand philosophical or metaphysical beliefs and opinions, refusing to modify them or to be open and receptive to others' insights and perspectives.

Your overall outlook on life is serious, and you may feel that life or God will punish you if you do not watch your step!

Uranus in Sagittarius:

You are part of a 7 year group of people who are extremely enterprising and forward-looking. You are optimists and explorers. Your age group shoots for the stars, figuratively and literally. Space exploration takes on new dimensions as your age group pushes fervently to the next frontier. There is a buoyant and youthful optimism and enthusiasm in your group, and you have your share of great discoveries as well as pipe dreams and disillusionment. The discoveries and contributions, however, are many, and more than compensate for the failures.

Uranus in 11th house:

You have unusual, even eccentric friends, and you are likely to join groups, communities, organizations, or clubs which promote progressive or unconventional ideas, social change, or innovation in some form. You are dynamic and creative in business affairs and in organizations.

Neptune in Sagittarius:

You are part of a 14 year group of people that are extremely idealistic and farsighted in their dreams. Your age group is very liberal and expansive in outlook, and consequently churches become much more flexible and more eclectic in their approach during your life time. Religions that do not adapt to the broad-minded attitude of your age group simply are unable to attract very much interest and involvement from you.

A great deal of metaphysical musing and speculation is evident in your age group, and there is a very strong interest in all manner of psychic phenomena, UFO's, prophecy, etc. This interest will open many new doors and insights, but will also often lead to a great deal of fantasizing and speculation that is taken more seriously than it should be.

Neptune in 1st house:

You are yielding, gentle, and impressionable. You tend to "melt" into your surroundings, and do not make a very powerful, vivid impression on others. Especially while young, you may not have a very clear sense of identity.

Sensitive and compassionate, you do not enjoy fighting and no matter what you profess, you are a pacifist at heart.

Neptune Sextile Pluto:

The entire generation to which you belong has tremendous opportunities for spiritual rebirth and awakening. This will not be forced upon you or precipitated by unavoidable events, rather it comes from an inner yearning and a natural propensity to seek the depths.

Pluto in Libra:

You are part of a 12 year group of people who are deeply interested in personal relationships. Your age group has a deeply-rooted yearning to see people relating and communicating with each other effectively and harmoniously. There is little egotism and a willingness to hear the other person's side of the story and a readiness to compromise and arbitrate different points of view. In fact, the need for harmonious, peaceful relationships is so strong that there is a tendency to overlook real differences and to focus only on the similarities in an attempt to bring different parties into harmony with each other.

Interest in psychology and sociology is high in your age group. There is a tremendous heightening of awareness of social skills. Your age group will experiment with different marriage styles, family relationships, and even business relationships in an attempt to bring fair treatment and effective communication between people. Interest and appreciation for other cultures is also strong, and your age group will work hard to preserve and support the cultural heritage of all ethnic groups.

Your strong yearning for equitable and harmonious relationships is also reflected in major advancements in trade agreements, arms control, and international cooperation that are designed and implemented by your generation. These agreements and policies foster a much safer and more cooperative environment for all, although there is also a tendency for greedy individuals to take advantage of the conciliatory atmosphere and twist situations to their own ends.

In short, you are part of a generation of individuals who are deeply interested in other people; you are a humanistic and humanitarian group. You will struggle and experiment with personal relationships, and forge new models for how people can relate as friends, family members, and members of nations as well.

Pluto in 10th house:

You have a powerful sense of destiny and may be unusually, even ruthlessly, ambitious. There is a very driven, compulsive quality to the way you pursue your career or other important life goals, which is likely to win you both staunch admirers and vigorous opponents.

There is a very "radical" side to you, and you may want to remake or change the world in some significant way. Depending on other astrological factors in your chart and your own decisions, you can be either very destructive or a powerful force for healing and positive change in the world.

Year 2012, world end ? PDF Print E-mail

Let us explore this question through a horary chart, genuine question asked by myself on June 27, 2009, at 10:20 pm CED, (location 01e37, 50n43): after doing some reading on the subject, I wanted to find the answer (or an answer) by horary.

What will happen in 2012? Will the world end?

Stunning chart! As the whole 2012 issue is a based on a calendar prediction, no wonder that the Ascendant ruler is Saturn, the master of Time. Notice the tight conjunction with the Moon (at the end of a Moon-Saturn cycle) in the 8th house (of transformation). A very clearly astrological picture of the humanity (the Moon) reaching at the end of some human calendar.

So, this is what we knew already, it's part of the question. Let us explore the chart indications.

First of all, looking around for more indication, I notice that Ceres is located right between the Moon and Saturn. Ceres is an asteroid known to be associated with Mother Earth (also food and ecology). Ceres is also applying to conjunct Saturn, in what represents the end of a Ceres-Saturn cycle (fyi, this is a 6 year long cycle). So, symbolically there is also a end to a time cycle on Mother Earth.

To those fearing a physical end of the Earth, I point out the MC-IC axis in this chart at the 15th degree in a fixed sign, with both 4th and 10th house rulers in a fixed sign: the physical and social environement will not suffer sudden changes.

Also, notice the position of the main significator, Saturn and the co-significator, the Moon, in succeedent houses: also an argument of continuity.

So the keyword cannot be sudden change, nor end, but rather transition.

In what way?

As the 2nd house is also ruled by Saturn, I think this indicates a strong connection with material values and the economy. The whole chart seems to have connections at this level.

Saturn (peregrine, therefore weakened) is applying to an opposition to the Part of Fortune from the 2nd house, which indicates a challenge to materiality and attachement to material values (orb 3.5 degrees just as there are 3.5 years to go from June 2009 to December 2012), so the economic crisis should likely continue until then.

But Saturn is helped by sextile by the Sun – ruler of the 8th house, suggesting that the banking system (= 8th house) will intervene to offer help. What kind of help will this be, knowing that the Sun is also peregrine, it is located in the detriment sign of Saturn, Cancer, therefore « Saturn dislikes the Sun » and the Sun separates from an opposition with Pluto, modern 10th house ruler from the 12th house (= hidden rulers of the world). In other words, this astrological picture seems to confirm the conspiracy theories of the economic crisis manipulated by certain hidden powerful leaders.

I'm sure this economical situation is just a tiny part of the overall picture, and would welcome any other intervention from other astrologers that might help clarifying the chart indications.

Looking at the bright side, I notice the very special and spiritual conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron on the 2nd house cusp, so the tendency of financial anarchy or dissolution of of the attachement to material values is most welcome from a spiritual standpoint.

Jupiter rules the 12th house of humble service and spiritual illumination, Neptune spells spirituality, while Chiron teaches us to learn to transcend the difficulties into spiritual strengths.

North Node's position in the 1st house at the very first degree of Aquarius is also relieving – evolution is the word of the day!

As the triple conjunction is moving back into the 1st house, I expect this spiritualizing influence to be stronger and stronger. We should tune into this opportunity to overcome any materialism and petty preoccupations for our material future. Do your best today and do not worry about tomorrow Jesus said, there are enough troubles today. God gives you already every day what is proper for your soul anyway. Seek true spirituality and shift your focus to the divine aspects of existence, before anything else: "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."

I think this is one of the messages of this horary chart.

Law of Seven and Spiritual Astrology PDF Print E-mail

THE LAW OF SEVEN

This theory that originates from Gurdjieff and Ouspensky (and has roots in the Pythagorean theories of harmonics) says that every process is formed of seven stages of development and that there are two discontinuity points that need an energy boost or a shock to continue.

Those seven stages were symbolically associated to the musical octave from "do" to the next "do".

On an octave, the first shock is to be delivered between "si" and "do", that is, at the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next one.

As the energy of the beginning may run out quite quickly and the process might not be completed, a second shock is to be delivered between "mi" and "fa", which is 3/7 of the whole cycle.

If you think about the 7 musical tones in association with the 7 chakras of the energetic body, you will notice that there is something special between the 3rd chakra (solar plexus chakra) and the 4th chakra (heart chakra), as there is indeed a wall, a separation. On the physical level this wall is the diaphragm, that separates the abdominal cavity from the thoracic cavity – the first 3 chakras are located below the diaphragm, the next 4 chakras are located above it. On the spiritual level, there is a separation between working to fulfill one's basic needs (first 3 chakras: food/money, sex/social acceptance and trust/personal power) and working to fulfill one's spiritual needs (love, sensibility/intuition, knowledge/understanding, bliss).

Using this knowledge and applying it back to the moment of the second shock (3/7 of any cycle), one can understand that the second shock should be spiritual in nature and is essential for an integrated living, for the unity between the material and spiritual sides of our beings or of any life experience.

SPIRITUAL ASTROLOGY

In astrology, on the zodiacal circle, this beginning of the cycle is 0 Aries, which corresponds to the first shock in the Law of Seven theory (or the first influx of physical energy).

On the zodiacal circle, the location of the second shock is 04 degrees 17 minutes and 08 seconds in Virgo (which is 3/7 of the 360 degrees).

Look at the Sabian Symbol associated to this point: A MAN BECOMING AWARE OF NATURE SPIRITS AND NORMALLY UNSEEN SPIRITUAL ENERGIES (5 Virgo).

The moment when the Sun transits this special point is called the yearly solar hiatus and represents a special moment when one's spiritual activity may be particularly efficient to help having a fulfilling life experience (for the remaining of the year) and generally boosting one's spiritual life.

I feel that the hiatus moment is really important to help integrate the spiritual aspects of any life experience, so that it might really get us to the next spiritual level.

You may perform a meditation or any other spiritual activity the next times when the Sun transits that special point:

  • in 2009: on August 27, at 10:15 am GMT
  • in 2010: on August 27, at 04:07 pm GMT
  • in 2011: on August 27, at 09:57 pm GMT
  • in 2012: on August 27, at 03:45 am GMT
  • in 2013: on August 27, at 09:41 am GMT
  • in 2014: on August 27, at 03:22 pm GMT

You may study the moment of the needed 2nd shock of any cycle, such as the monthly Sun-Moon cycle. To Hindus, the day when that happens is celebrated as the day of the goddess Tripura Sundari (two days before the Full Moon), the goddess of love and harmony.

CRITICAL DEGREES

The Law of Seven and the concepts of the 1st and the 2nd shock that are needed to get processes started and then finalized explain very well the critical degrees in astrology.

The 30th degree of any sign (29:00 - 29:59) is a critical degree because the 1st shock (energy boost) is needed to get new things started. This is the energy of the beginning.

The critical degrees associated with the limits of the Moon's mansions (12-13 and 25-26 in cardinal signs, 8-9 and 21-22 in fixed signs and 4-5 and 17-18 in mutable signs) are critical degrees because the Moon mansions' length is 3/7 of the length of a Sun sign, therefore at these points a 2nd shock (energy boost) is needed to prove one's worthiness to finalize the process. This is the main spiritual test to face on the path.

A message from God on free will and destiny PDF Print E-mail

as revelated to Bertha Dudde

From 1937 until 1965, Bertha Dudde was permitted to receive a Divine Revelation through the INNER VOICE. The following is the message received on September 27, 1949.

Only what is relevant for the redemption of the spiritual substance, hence only what provides more or less detailed knowledge about My plan of Salvation and thereby also testifies to Me and My fundamental nature, should be regarded as given by My spirit. Knowledge outside this framework, which neither awakens in people the belief in My love, wisdom and omnipotence, nor promotes the individual's maturity of soul.... furthermore, knowledge which contradicts Christ's teaching such that it negates the human being's free will, which thus would leave the person at the mercy of his destiny without his own will.... finally, knowledge which believes that it can reveal a future veiled to people by My wisdom.... is not the working of the spirit and therefore not in accordance with My will. Rather, it is My adversary's means to divert people from true knowledge and to mislead them. People will never be able to ascertain or calculate how an individual person's destiny unfolds itself, all such claims are wrong conclusions or conjectures. They could certainly be coincidentally accurate but then never on account of calculations or influences from specific stars; instead a person's destiny always corresponds to My plan of eternity which is based on the human being's free will.

In the great space of creation myriad stars are indeed visible to the people of this earth, but these stars do not exert an influence on people, which can be understood by anyone who considers that countless stars are moving within their designated orbit, that this regularity has been recognised by My wisdom since the beginning of eternity to be good and right, that all stars support living beings for the purpose of higher development and that their destiny is also determined, but it will never be affected by other stars. The inhabitants of earth can only physically sense atmospheric currents which appear in the proximity of certain stars but they have no bearing on the destiny of an individual person.

The conformity to law in the entire universe, the eternal order which can be seen in My creation, is certainly sufficient evidence of a guiding power.... But the same order also takes place in the process of development of the beings, for whom creation as a whole came into existence in the first place.... The fact that these creations have a certain influence on the development of spiritual beings is correct, but only in as much as that they provide the latter with the opportunity for perpetual transformation and therefore gradual ascent. However, in the stage of free will people are confronted by events the way I, in My wisdom, deemed them to be beneficial for the being. The fact that all life on Earth takes place with a certain regularity causes people to come to wrong conclusions.... they interpreted this regularity in line with their own ideas and concluded that they relate to the destiny of the human being. Yet these investigations do not correspond to the truth by any means and are not approved by Me either, for I will always accept the human being's free will, even though I have determined his fate since eternity....

Amen.

Collection of Carl G. Jung quotes on Astrology

  • We are born at a given moment in a given place and like vintage years of wine we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything else. - C.G.Jung
  • Astrology is one of the intuitive methods like the I Ching, geomantics, and other divinatory procedures. It is based upon the synchronicity principle, i.e. meaningful coincidence. ... Astrology is a naively projected psychology in which the different attitudes and temperaments of man are represented as gods and identified with planets and zodiacal constellations. - Carl Gustav Jung
  • The starry vault of heaven is in truth the open book of cosmic projection, in which are reflected the mythologems, i.e., the archetypes. In this vision astrology and alchemy, the two classical functionaries of the psychology of the collective unconscious, join hands. - Carl .G. Jung
  • Astrology is of particular interest to the psychologist, since it contains a sort of psychological experience which we call projected - this means that we find the psychological facts as it were in the constellations. This originally gave rise to the idea that these factors derive from the stars, whereas they are merely in a relation of synchronicity with them. I admit that this is a very curious fact which throws a peculiar light on the structure of the human mind. .... Carl G. Jung in 1947 in a letter to prof. B.V. Raman
  • So far as the personality is still potential, it can be called transcendent, and so far as it is unconscious, it is indistinguishable from all those things that carry its projections...[that is,] symbols of the outside world and the cosmic symbols. These form the psychological basis for the conception of man as a macrocosm through the astrological components of his character. - Carl G. Jung
  • Astrologers are influenced by theosophy, so they say, "That is very simple, it is just vibration!" ... But what is vibration? They say it is light energy, perhaps electricity, they are not quite informed. At all events the vibrations that could influence us have never been seen, so it remains just a word. - Carl G. Jung in 1929
  • Our modern science begins with astronomy. Instead of saying that man was led by psychological motives, they formerly said he was led by his stars. ... The puzzling thing is that there is really a curious coincidence between astrological and psychological facts, so that one can isolate time from the characteristics of an individual, and also, one can deduce characteristics from a certain time. Therefore we have to conclude that what we call psychological motives are in a way identical with star positions. Since we cannot demonstrate this, we must form a peculiar hypothesis. This hypothesis says that the dynamics of our psyche is not just identical with the position of the stars, nor has it to do with vibrations - that is an illegitimate hypothesis. It is better to assume that i is a phenomenon of time. ... The stars are simply used by man to serve as indicators of time... - Carl G. Jung in 1929
  • The collective unconscious...appears to consist of mythological motifs or primordial images, for which reason the myths of all nations are its real exponents. In fact the whole of mythology could be taken as a sort of projection of the collective unconscious. We can see this most clearly if we look at the heavenly constellations, whose originally chaotic forms are organized through the projection of images. This explains the influence of the stars as asserted by astrologers. These influences are nothing but unconscious, introspective perceptions of the collective unconscious. - Carl G. Jung
  • Synchronicity does not admit causality in the analogy between terrestrial events and astrological constellations ... What astrology can establish are the analogous events, but not that either series is the cause or the effect of the other. (For instance, the same constellation may at one time signify a catastrophe and at another time, in the same case, a cold in the head.) ... In any case, astrology occupies a unique and special position among the intuitive methods... I have observed many cases where a well-defined psychological phase, or an analogous event, was accompanied by a transit (particularly when Saturn and Uranus were affected). - Carl G. Jung
  • Obviously astrology has much to offer psychology, but what the latter can offer its elder sister is less evident. So far as I judge, it would seem to me advantageous for astrology to take the existence of psychology into account, above all the psychology of the personality and of the unconscious. - Carl G. Jung
  • It is indeed very difficult to explain the astrological phenomenon. I am not in the least disposed to an either-or explanation. I always say that with a psychological explanation there is only the alternative: either and or! This seems to me to be the case with astrology too. - Carl G. Jung in a letter to Hans Bender, April 10, 1958, Carl G. Jung Letters, Volume 2, 1951-1961, p. 428.
  • The truth is that astrology flourishes as never before. There is a regular library of astrological books and magazines that sell for far better than the best scientific works. The Europeans and Americans who have horoscopes cast for them may be counted not by the hundred thousand but by the million. Astrology is a flourishing industry. ... If such a large percentage of the population has an insatiable need for this counter pole to the scientific spirit, we can be sure that the collective psyche in every individual - be he never so scientific - has this psychological requirement in equally high degree. A certain kind of "scientific" scepticism and criticism in our time is nothing but a misplaced compensation of the powerful and deep-rooted superstitious impulses of the collective psyche. - C.G. Jung, Two Essays on Analytical Psychology
  • While studying astrology I have applied it to concrete cases many times. ... The experiment is most suggestive to a versatile mind, unreliable in the hands of the unimaginative, and dangerous in the hands of a fool, as those intuitive methods always are. If intelligently used the experiment is useful in cases where it is a matter of an opaque structure. It often provides surprising insights. The most definite limit of the experiment is lack of intelligence and literal-mindedness of the observer. ... Undoubtedly astrology today is flourishing as never before in the past, but it is still most unsatisfactorily explored despite very frequent use. It is an apt tool only when used intelligently. It is not at all foolproof and when used by a rationalistic and narrow mind it is a definite nuisance. - C. G. Jung: Letters, volume 2, 1951-1961, pages 463-464, letter to Robert L. Kroon, 15 November 1958
  • Astrology is knocking at the gates of our universities: A Tübingen professor has switched over to astrology and a course on astrology was given at Cardiff University last year. Astrology is not mere superstition but contains some psychological facts (like theosophy) which are of considerable importance. Astrology has actually nothing to do with the stars but is the 5000-year-old psychology of antiquity and the Middle Ages. - C.G. Jung in a letter to L. Oswald on December 8, 1928, in Carl G. Jung, Letters, vol. 1, 1973
